A blocked drainage system |
It is no longer news that Lagos state is a city of lakes, but it is surely news that Lagos state has turned into a city of waste.
Lagos has always been known for its lagoon nature and the comfort it gives to people, but now almost all streets in Lagos both tarred and otherwise are full with flood, you may ask why, some may still sing the usual old fable,'government need to do something.
I can categorically say that wrong disposal of wastes makes Lagos look unkept. When the gutters are turned into dumping areas for wastes,I wonder "does government have to teach them this again"?. It is really disgusting, last week I went to Ago/Okota environs ,hmmm! I was speechless ,this was the so called 'rich mans quarters' ,it was as dirty as a pigs tent. For real I felt I was in the wrong area, some houses built without a gutter, terrible!.
A full waste drum littered everywhere |
It is not as if the government is not doing anything, the Lagos state government have provided a good disposal system in Lagos, but Lagosians will refuse to pay the token they are asked to pay.The worse is that the citizens are usually at the receiving end ,when it rains, there is a flood , the water is trapped in the various gutters and canals ,because of the wastes that block the drainage systems. This is really not funny, then you see the water entering houses damaging properties and they will say government.
It is actually time for us the citizens to learn how to do the right thing,as they say ,'change begins with us' - government can't do everything for you.Just today again I saw men at work on the Oshodi drainage, so please let us do the right thing for our benefit, our childrens health and their future. The mega city is actually not going to be if we continue this way.
