Njideka Akunyili Crosby's art

So, as I roamed through the internet and later ellawrites, I saw a celebration of an art icon Njideka Akunyili Crosby who is the daughter of the late Dora Akunyili an icon in medicine and known name in Nigeria's politics.
Njideka Akunyili Crosby is a  34-year-old Nigerian born and American resident visual artist whose confidence brought her this far.
What amazes me more is her style in art. Her artworks are a combination of collage, drawing, painting, printmaking and photo transfers; making them look so real like a movie. A hallmark of her paintings is the layering and collaging of small photographic images. Many of the images used are from Nigerian magazines or were taken by the her during visits to Nigeria; this indeed is creativity at its best.
She photocopies pictures from various sources such as wedding albums and magazines and transfers them to paper using acetone solvent. Her work depicts the personal imagery that transcends the specificity of individual experience and engages in a global dialogue on social and political issues. Her work addresses her move between Enugu (A state in Eastern Nigeria), where she grew up, and America, where she now lives.
This is why I remain proud to be called a Nigerian anytime, any day because it pays to always be patriotic.
